Equine Physiotherapy

Horses are elite athletes and therefore we believe they should have access to the same resources that elite human athletes do

Treating horses is no different to treating weekend warriors or elite athletes. The demands we place on our horses, from stabling, to travel and ridden work, means that they require additional care so that they can perform optimally. We believe that physiotherapy should be accessible to all horses, no matter what the level or discipline, not only to maximise performance and injury prevention, but to improve comfort and quality of life.

The initial physiotherapy session begins with an in-depth history and discussion about the horse’s current condition, and goals you would like to achieve. This is followed by an assessment, which is essential to identify any movement/gait dysfunctions, range of motion restrictions, muscle imbalances and soft tissue or bony changes. This guides a tailored management plan which includes manual therapy to correct any underlying dysfunctions and to minimise pain, which then allows for active therapies with the aim to consolidate the changes made. We provide a specific management plan to help you and your horse through your journey, with ongoing support ranging from intensive treatments, to maintenance, depending on your horse’s needs.

Given our background in professional sport, we have extensive knowledge to address performance limiting problems that arise from musculoskeletal issues, as well as injury prevention in the fit horse with the goal to maximise performance and comfort. Our specialty also lies within complex injury rehabilitation, and we can help devise individual strategies in your horse’s rehabilitation journey which consider pathology, movement compensations and reloading plans.

Our expertise spans multiple disciplines, from elite racehorses and eventers, to happy hackers.

We have strong relationships with vets, farriers, saddle fitters, dentists and other healthcare professionals to ensure a multi-disciplinary approach.
